Knowledge Agents in Philanthropy: AI, MCP and Trusted Data in Foundations

The Data Science and AI Group is hosting a webinar on AI, MCP and trusted data on 15 September.

During the webinar, Bertelsmann Stiftung will present how they are building a self-service knowledge infrastructure that connects staff to high-quality data, publications and institutional knowledge through AI-powered tools and Model Context Protocol (MCP) technology. As AI becomes embedded in everyday work, the challenge is no longer simply accessing information but ensuring that AI systems can draw on trusted, relevant and well-governed organisational knowledge.

The session will explore the foundation’s early experiments, custom development of a scalable knowledge ecosystem and where they see the most value in using MCP for knowledge management at foundations. Participants will learn about the technical, organisational, and governance challenges encountered along the way, including data ownership, GDPR considerations, and strategies for providing staff with secure access to trusted information.

Attendees will leave with a practical understanding of MCP, its potential applications for philanthropy, key considerations around organisational adoption and how this technology may improve knowledge sharing across the sector as a whole.
